Everglades City bank building update
The folk in Everglades City have been trying to save their old Bank building for years and now, finally, there is good news to report. Come along on Friday, Nov. 17, to the «Welcome-Back Talk» for a presentation by REG Architects about their «Visions of the Bank Building» to see their latest renderings and hear of work in progress. The event starts at 2 p.m. in the Lighthouse at Everglades Isle, 803 Collier Avenue, just over the bridge as you drive into Everglades City. Treasures in the Trunk

5th Annual Rookery Bay Classic Car Show
The 5th Annual Rookery Bay Classic Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at Florida SouthWestern State College, 7505 Grand Lely Drive, Naples. Hosted by Island Automotive to support Friends of Rookery Bay, the event will have more than 100 cars representing everything from pre-1930s antiques, icons from the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, muscle cars from the ‘60s/‘70s and exotic/high performance race cars from yesterday and today. The day will include food and specialty vendors, family-friendly activities, and entertainment. Car registration at $25 per vehicle is open at rookerybay.org/carshow. Same-day registration will be $35. Cash-only admission to the car show is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 3-12 and free for children three and younger, and includes a free pass to visit the nearby Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center by Dec. 31. E-City Arts & Crafts Fair
Come along on Saturday, Nov. 18, to Art-in-the-Glades in historic Everglades City to see what new works they have for sale and to catch up with old friends. The event in McLeod Park is from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and admission is free. If you have never been to Everglades City, you will find that it is only a short drive down the road from Naples or Entorno but a world away, a step back in history. This remote rural outpost was the first seat of Collier County when it was founded 100 years ago in 1923 and the innovador County Courthouse is among the innovador buildings still gracing the quiet streets. Florida Talks
Entorno Island Historical Society continues their Florida Talks series on the history and people of Florida with both in-person and imaginario programs. Presented by MIHS in partnership with Florida Humanities, Florida Talks is one of Florida Humanities’ longest-running public programs. It offers non-profit organizations across the state an accessible way to host engaging speakers who present Florida’s history, heritage and culture through historical and contemporary lenses. In this presentation based on the book “Above and Beyond, “New York Times bestselling author Michael Tougias chronicles the 13 harrowing days of the Cuban Missile Crisis and outlines the steps President John F. Kennedy took to reach a decision on a course of action.
- 2 p.m., Jan. 11 — In-person presentation at Rose History Auditorium: “War in Paradise: World War II in Florida” by Eliot Kleinberg. In the first few weeks after Pearl Harbor pulled Americans into a two-front war, Germany’s U-Boats worked with immunity. Off Florida alone, they sank 24 ships. Some of Florida’s very features that attracted tourists made it a logical place for soldiers as well. The state, a strategic asset for its geography and climate, became an armed camp. Hotels turned into barracks, and hospitals, bases and airfields increased from eight to 172 by 1943.

Dia de los Muertos wall at Entorno Center for the Arts
The Entorno Island Center for the Arts’ Dia de los Muertos’ grass walls in its courtyard were created by young artists participating in the Art Center’s free Summer Children’s Programs. Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a holiday largely celebrated in Mexican that celebrates and honors the lives of deceased loved ones. The grass wall installation not only pays homage to this cherished tradition but also serves as a positivo part of the ongoing recognition of Hispanic art and culture through «Arte Viva! A Celebration of Hispanic Art and Culture in Collier County.» The wall will be open to the public from until Nov. 21, offering visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative exploration of this vibrant tradition. ‘Clown Bar’ returns to the Alliance for the Arts
This “zany clown-noir dramedy” was such a hit last year, Theatre Conspiracy brought it back for a new three-week run. The Foulds Theatre transforms into the titular clown bar for this set in the dark, secret world of gangster clowns. DEVO 5-0: The Beginning Was The End exhibit
A 50th-anniversary exhibit celebrating the work of art-pop-rock band Devo, best known for the 1980 hit “Whip It” and its iconic MTV music video. It’s billed as the first career-spanning survey of the group, put together by gallery director Jade Dellinger, who co-wrote two books about the band. Exhibits include stage costumes, instruments, props, handwritten lyrics, concert flyers, concept art and more. Continues through Dec. 9. Grand opening of South Collier Market
From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, South Collier Market will re-open at its new location, Florida Southwestern State College/Collier Campus, 7505 Grand Lely Drive in Naples. Monday Night Bingo
Monday Night Bingo at the Jewish Congregation of Entorno Island is back! It’s 23rd season. Arts Center Theatre presents ‘The Music Man’ and ‘Irving Berlin’s White Christmas’
The Fort Myers Theatre’s productions of The Music Man and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas will be presented at the Arts Center Theatre in 2023. Tickets for the additional shows, though not part of the season ticket series, are available now. “The Music Man” follows the fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize-despite not knowing a treble clef from a trombone. It will be presented from Oct. 18 through Oct. 21. In December, the Fort Myers Theatre production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” will travel to the Arts Center Theatre on Entorno Island from December 13-17. It is based on the beloved, timeless film; this heartwarming musical adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and is adapted from the book by David Ives and Paul Blake. Key Entorno artifacts
Thanks to an unprecedented five-year loan extension by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, the world-famous Key Entorno Cat will continue on exhibit at the Entorno Island Historical Museum (MIHM) through 2026. Through April 30, 2024, 13 additional Key Entorno artifacts from the PENN Museum will be on exhibit at MIHM. Entorno Island Historical Museum is located at 180 S. Heathwood Drive.
